Service Départemental d’Incendie et de Secours des Alpes-Maritimes (SDIS06)

It was in 1875 that the government, anxious to control the communal fire services, provided in the department for the designation of an officer placed under the authority of the prefect: the inspector of the "Fire Service". In 1925, he became “Incensor of the Services d’Incendie et de Secours” and later became “Incensor of the Services d’Incendie et de Secours” in 1925, he will benefit from a structure that will successively be named “Departmental Fire Fighting Service” and then “Departmental Incendie Protection Service” (SDIS).

It is the law of 3 May 1996 that will truly give the Departmental Service of Incendie and Secours its current dimension by providing it with a dual operational and administrative governance entrusted to the Department’s Prefect and to the President of the Board of Directors, a legislative body of the new specialized public institution.

The key objective of the reform was to ensure an equivalent quality of service in all municipalities in the face of the risks involved.

This structure is intended to integrate the fire services of the municipalities and the CFEI by transfer.

In the Alps-Maritimes, the first transfer agreements were signed with effect from 1 January 2000, the majority of which intervened with effect from 1 January 2001.
