The miserable

How can we display Victor Hugo’s cathedral? Fred Cavayé takes up the challenge with an ambitious and faithful adaptation to the novel of 1862, to which he breathes the tension of his thrillers. Released after nineteen years of baggage for a stolen bread, Jean Valjean tries to redeem himself and do the good around him, under a false identity — but the inflexible inspector Javert tirelessly hunts him. Vincent Lindon played Valjean in front of the Javert of Tahar Rahim, surrounded by Camille Cottin and Benjamin Lavernhe as a couple Thénardier, Noémie Merlant in Fantine and Vassili Schneider — also present in Cinéroman with his short film — in Marius. Thought by Cavayé as a great moral race-suit in the way of the Fugitive, this monumental fresco reminds us that at each generation, the greatest texts call for a new vision.
