In the opening of the third edition of the Festival de Tragédies, Muriel Mayette-Holtz chose to bring to the stage a masterpiece by Véronique Olmi: the fragile but powerful voice of a contemporary tragedy, that of a single mother, in great social and psychological precariousness, who takes his two young sons to see the sea. A few days of vacation torn away from misery, the immensity of the sea as the only horizon.
A tasty hotel out of season. The dazzling lights of a fair foraine in the distance. The sea nearby, and especially the rain. These are the hours that precede this inexplicable, irreparable drama that this woman describes with almost maniac precision. She clings to details, as if it could stop the fall, but nothing stops the tragedy.
Véronique Olmi has written a text of an overwhelming simplicity, close to this woman. Each sentence advances like a vague, fragile and implacable. Mother love, far from being denied, is paradoxically at the heart of tragedy.
