Bérénice

As part of the third edition of the Tragédies Festival.

Choosing between love and power is Titus’ dilemma that has just accessed power and cannot marry Bérénice, a foreign queen, because the law prevents him. Antiochus is the helpless confidant of Bérénice. This piece of Racine is less a drama of power, than a drama of love: it is a long letter of farewell that cannot succeed in writing, and will leave three beings alone and devastated.

With a bare tray, the raw beauty of the Cimiez Arenas for only decoration, Robin Renucci returns to the essentials: the text, the actors and the strength of the game. As close to the actors, the public enters into the intimacy of passions, a powerless witness to the despair of Bérénice, Titus’ choices forced to give up his silent love and fidelity of Antiochus.

The mastery of Robin Renucci’s alexandrin allows comedians all the incandescence of the tragedy of feelings that is played in front of us. We are faced with three young people who will grow through their youthful love, passing from childhood to adult world, from feeling to speech, from words to action.Sceneweb
