From Eschyle to today

As part of the third edition of the Tragédies Festival.

"Eschyle's Suppliants" are the fifty Danaïdes, Libyan princesses, refusing a forced marriage and seeking political asylum from the Greek city of Argos. The Bérénice de Racine narrates the unhappy love of Titus, emperor of Rome, and of Bérénice, queen of Palestine, who cannot marry because it is forbidden for a stranger to reign over the Romans. The Eschyle Orestie treats, among other topics, the constraints of the feminine condition. These works highlight the important role of borders, whether political between states or legal-minded between the sexes.
