Concert
Imperial days

Vienna, 1809-1831

By Julien Brocal, pianist and composer

This recital tells the Empire from a city, Vienna, and from an instrument, the piano. Vienna was occupied twice by the French armies in 1805 and 1809. This is where the Congress redesigned Europe in 1814, and this is where three composers, at twenty years of interval, wrote music
marked by the great History.

Beethoven is thirty-eight years old when the shells fall on the city. Schubert has twelve. Chopin a
twenty in the winter that will permanently separate him from his country.

  • Franz Schubert (1797–1828) - Impromptu en mi flat major, op. 90 n°2 (1827),
  • Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) - Sonate n°26 in mid major flat, op. 81a "Les Adieux" (1809–1810),
  • Franz Schubert - Sonate en la major, D. 664 (vers 1819),
  • Frédéric Chopin (1810–1849) - Scherzo n°1 in so minor, op. 20 (1831–1835).
