Arina Essipowitsch
Les Roches Fluides (2024) offers a reflection on photography as a moving and dynamic space, an immersive experience.
My work, deeply nourished by the experience of migration and displacement, is built around the notion of identity as a fluid, fragmented and multiple concept. I approach these notions by putting-in-scene: my characters seem to want to merge with the landscapes, “to do one” with the fixed time of rock and the fluid time of the streams. More than a chameleon game, the images reveal a fragile balance of landscapes in movements.
Identity is approached from the perspective of plurality, it is a fragmented, evolutionary entity, a palimpsest in perpetual rewriting. This intimate questioning is expanding to question the medium itself: can photography capture an identity in perpetual motion? Can it be something else than a moment fixed in time? Or even deconstruct the paradigm of “storing” to open a space where the image becomes a gesture, an act becoming?
Born in Minsk (Biélorussie), Arina Essipowitsch lives and works in Aix-en-Provence, France, after being trained in the PACA region (DNSEP 2014 with felicitation of the jury), ESAAix and Postdiplômée in 2017 and the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany, Post-Master ART and ENSEGNEMENT ESAAix in 2023/2024.
In 2020 the artist exhibited in the framework of MANIFESTA 13. His work received several awards: winner of the Polyptyque Prize 2021, Centre Photographique Marseille, then Lauréate of the month of the Photo of Grenoble 2021 with the piece FOLD. Thanks to the support of the DRAC PACA, it is housed in residence “artist in territory” in 2021/2022 and exhibited in 2022 at the Musée International de Parfumerie in Grasse and the Espace de l’Art Concret in Mouans-Sartoux. Its parts are part of the acquisitions of FRAC Sud and FCAC in Marseille.
In 2023 the artist is invited by the PAUME GAME for an exhibition at the Château de Tours. This is a first institutional personal exhibition, police station Marta Ponsa. Its project is housed at POLAU – Pôle Arts Urbanisme in St-Pierre-des-Corps and supported the city of Tours and the Mission Val de Loire. She is then invited to attend the 20-year event of the image at the Jeu de Paume in the fall of 2024. His works belong to the public collections in France ( FRAC SUD and FCAC Marseille) as well as in Germany ( Kupferstichkabinett Dresden, HfBK Dresden, FBZ Bochum) and private collections.
