The Image Fall

Sandrine Marc

What appears?

My photographs present silent situations. The fold of a wave, fog, snow... The physical transformation of water, its passage through different states, creates particular atmospheric conditions that change our perception of space. These oscillations are for me, matter to make image.

My research combines figurative and abstract views.
The articulation is based on formal and sensory analogies to create a visual dialogue. Abstract compositions were made from textiles, a tribute to William Fox Talbot's photogenic drawings. The thread frame is folded, froised, distorted, enlarged or in direct contact with the sensitive paper, it generates patterns, moires, graphic games, which vary according to their superposition and scale of representation.

The manufacture of these images passes through technical devices such as the camera and the enlarger, but it also has an artisan and experimental dimension. Drawings and photograms made by hand are the result of repeated and adjusted gestures in the space of the black room. This process is part of a long time, a very different relationship to the production and flow of a digital image.
