La Cerisaie

Cerisaie or French impressionism vs. Russian silver age.

The Cerisaie is a poetic program paralleling Russian and French music from the beginning of the twentieth century. His title comes from a famous piece of Chekhov representing a time when these two cultures influence each other. This program is a dialogue between the colourful and elusive finesse of French impressionism with the tumultuous passion of Russian silver age through four composers: Rachmaninov and Scriabine, two composers and performers of genius, both released from the Tchaikovsky conservatory in Moscow, and Debussy with his fervent admirer Ravel. The two currents, born in the pictorial environment, intimately linked to literature, intertwine in their musical expression.
