I'm different.
At the Museum Matisse Nice, our theme is in I'm different.. Through a selection of portraits by Henri Matisse, his creative process is highlighted: resemblance leaves room for expression, essential trait and emotion.
Each face reveals itself a source of infinite variations allowing the artist to grasp the multiple facets with great freedom. “I’m different” invites everyone to explore their own singularities, and to understand that, at Matisse, experimentation is the very engine of creation.

- 14h00-15h30 - Participatory workshops around the aquatintes of Henri Matisse
- Workshop 1 : Recognize yourself in a few ways: Inspired by Henri Matisse’s aquatintes, the artist Jonathan Cejudo performs live portraits where the simplification of the line reveals the singularity of each. Participants are then invited to recognize their own portrait among all works and to take it as a souvenir of the experience.
- Workshop 2 : Portrait-Robot : The mystery of the aquatinte : From an original aquatinte of the museum, the participants made a portrait-robot to reconstitute a mystery work. A game of interpretation between language and image, which invites to question the perception and reading of the portrait.
- Workshop 3 : Face(s) in motion : Participants realize a self-portrait in some essential traits, without looking for resemblance, but the expression of their singularity. Through this activity the public experiments with the principle of variation around the same motive, at the heart of Matisse’s art.

- 4:00 -Film Henri Matisse, François Campaux (1946) - (Auditorium): Screening of the film Henri Matisse de François Campaux (1946), rare testimony of the artist’s act of creation. Thanks to slow motion sequences, the film makes visible what is usually imperceptible: hesitations, adjustments and search for a fair line. This film reveals that simplification is the result of a long work of reflection and experience. Film duration: 25 minutes
