At the initiative of ARGOS FILMS and Michel Valio, the filmHenri Matissefrom François Campaux was restored in 4K from the original negative elements. This restoration by ÉCLAIR CLASSICS, with the competition of La Cinémathèque française and the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée, was supported by the Matisse Nice Museum and the Henri Matisse – Le Cateau-Cambrésis Museum. The Museum Matisse Nice recently acquired a 35 mm copy from the film return of the restored version of the film.

Toured during the winter of 1945-1946, in Paris and then in Vence, this documentary film designed in the immediate post-war era is a tool for disseminating French modern art – of which Matisse is then an uncontested figure – it will be broadcast in the United States. Jalon in the film on art, he will inspire a few years later to Georges ClouzotMystery Picasso.
