The so-called Carabacel or Saint-Charles hill rises slowly, open to a wide view facing south. It is one of the first quarters in which winterers settle in large villas, divided into rented apartments.
As of 1905, Jean-Emile Bieckert, having made a fortune in Argentina, gradually bought the hill to set up a hotel park surrounded by large parks. A lot of villas will multiply architectural styles after 1920.

From 1862 onwards, this set was built on this sunny hill in several phases. Very appreciated by foreigners, the guide written by De Carli in 1864, "Advising the tourist in Nice and its surroundings", presents them as follows: “three elegantly furnished houses, divisible in apartments, very beautiful exhibition at noon, stables and discounts, enjoyment of a large garden”.
