Three years later, Boualem Sansal returns to the Mediterranean University Centre where we had the honour of welcoming him. In the meantime, his life has shifted. Naturalized French, he became a hostage in his native country. The writer who denounced the totalitarianism that comes was the victim.
Detained in Algerian jails from November 2024 to November 2025, after a parody of trial and a condemnation of a heavy penalty, he suffered injustice and humiliation. He was dispossessed of everything that made his previous life and finally expelled. He lost everything but he went out stronger, more determined, more free than ever.
