The heart in the era of progress: the advances that save lives
Augustin Frison-Roche, painter and contemporary sculptor
The East, the land of origin, is a source of inspiration for artists always. It responds to our thirst for resonance, between dream and reality, between history and news, of Byzantine influences reinvented by Cimabue to today, through the orientalist current. Augustin Frison-Roche, the painter of wonder, drawing from his childhood dreams, in myths, in the sacred texts, in his journeys, who worked for the cathedrals of Saint-Malo, Chartres, Coutances and Cambrai, invites us through his works to contemplate the invisible. As the 170th anniversary of the Work of the East is celebrated this year, which accompanies Christians in 23 countries, illustrated by a stamp representing a detail of the painting “L’Adoration des mages”, a masterpiece of the exhibition “Épiphanies” at the Collège des Bernardins in 2025, the artist will recount during this exceptional meeting the links that bind him to the East and the place of this mysterious world in his life.
