Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen (CUM)
Founded in 1933 with Paul Valéry as the first director, today there is a unique institution of his kind, offering a rich cultural panorama through literature, philosophy, history, arts and sciences.
A witness to history, a guardian of Mediterranean thought desired by Paul Valéry, the CUM still offers in the 21st century a privileged space where all the debates are possible and where the word and the writing marry and enrich each other.
On November 29 and 30, 2013, the Passion Symposium was dedicated to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the CUM which received the most brilliant spirits of our time. The lectures and round tables were organized around the history of this prestigious institution, unique in its kind, of Paul Valéry, the Mediterranean and literature.
This historic site is under the spotlight to hold its “rank” that of a space full of thoughts and reflections, offering the Niçois, Azurians and visitors an unparalleled intellectual and cultural enrichment and allowing the ideals of freedom, justice and responsibility.
To mention only a few personalities who have made us the honour to participate either at seminars or at conferences: Gabriel de Broglie, Michel Déon, Jean d’Ormesson, Erik Orsenna, Marek Halter, Raoul Mille, Henry de Lumley, Luc Ferry, Didier Van Cauwelaert, Denis Tillinac...
The hotel is composed of an amphitheatre with a capacity of 530 people and two lounges (salon Jules Romain and Salon Harmonie) with a capacity of 100 people each, as well as a library concerning the writings of our prestigious guests and the annals of the Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen.
The rooms are also rented for prestigious events.
The Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen receives a large number of people each year, about 50,000 people per year and the site is increasingly visited
