Paire de candélabres

Two allegorical figures with back-to-back fish tail bearing wings and holding a trumpet, surround the high neck of a rocket vase. From the top five arms of light in the shape of a trumpet. The set rests on a square base of green marble topped with winged lions. The body of the vase is decorated with palmettes and the centre of decorative fittings representing winged female figures and coated bronze volutes.
Similar candelabres accompanying a golden bronze pendulum in the form of a vase fuseau, with the same decorative theme as the candelabres, come from Claude Galle’s workshop, which would presuppose that the tan produced variants of a similar piece intended for the filling of chimneys.
The existence of a pair of similar vases, signed by Pierre-Philippe Thomire, was adapted in 1810 on a marble base decorated with the Mercury mask.
