Two pairs of torchers

Pierre-Philippe Thomire is a sculptor, tan and designer.
Each of the torchers is composed of a triangular base, decorated on each face of a winged figure and volutes, placed on a wall in moulded marble. The pedestal supports a cask in four parts of superimposed ornaments representing water leaves, acenarhes and palmettes. The upper part of the torchers ends with an evaporated capital decorated with a trumpeted bronze vine garland, from which a floweron emanates and, on two rows, a bouquet of sixteen arms of light in the form of a trumpet.
They resemble the torcheries executed by Thomire in 1811 for the Grand Cabinet of Napoleon 1st to the Tuileries. Today they are at the Palace of Versailles.
The torcheries were part of the original furniture of the villa Masséna and were set up in 1900-1910 in the central gallery on the ground floor where they are still present today.
