Firewood elements

For the living room which was used as a smoker, Victor Masséna had to integrate into woodwork painted with a light grey and geometric gold motifs, panels probably from the Roquelaure hotel in Paris.
These panel elements, at the corners of the room, are composed of four narrow and long panels. They are arranged identically with two square compartments and a third, in the middle, rectangular shape, delimited by a fine floral garland. The center is occupied by the figure of a muse, above by a musical instrument in a crown of flowers and below by a bird in an identical crown.
We recognize Thalie, muse of the comedy holding a mask and slips, Euterpe, muse of music with a flute, Erato, muse of the elegy bearing a crown of myrtle and rose and a lyre and Terpsichore, muse of dance with a crown of garlands and a musical instrument of ropes.
These paintings can be compared to those of the Malmaison dining room created around 1800 by Louis Lafitte.
