Ebelsberg Battle

The four large paintings of the woodworks of the large living room were commissioned by Victor Masséna to Paul Grolleron, painter of history and battles and signed in 1900-1901. The latter was asked to represent in four paintings the facts of major arms of General Masséna at the Napoleonic period, which had become a marshal in 1804, Duke of Rivoli in 1808, Prince of Essling in 1810.

They represented the battle of Rivoli, where General Masséna took over the Austrian army in 1797; Conegliano’s interview, supported in Genoa against the Austrians in 1800; The battle of Ebelsberg, delivered to the Austrians on the banks of the Danube in 1809 and the Battle of Essling, a village on the Danube, a battle where General Masséna appeared in 1809.

Grolleron, an artist emeritus in historical and military iconography, was renamed for his performances of the War of 1870 and epis.
