Pendule Couple vêtu à l’antique

Charles-Basile Leroy (1765-1828), watchmaker, is the author of the movement of this neoclassical pendulum. It provides movements for golden bronze pendulums of Claude Galle among others.

In 1805, a watchmaker of his lateness, Mrs. Mother of the Emperor, he was allowed to sign his works by the brand Le Roy Clockr de Madame on the enamelled Roman dial.

This pendulum sets a couple dressed in antiques. A woman seated on a dial, lays her hand on the heart of her companion. The couple, bare feet, wears a tunic, held under the armpits, that pronounced folds let fall to the knees.

Both characters, like the pendulum, are treated in golden bronze. The rectangular base, consisting of a basement placed on topped feet, is made up of a historied bas-relief. He staged Artemis, Greek goddess of hunting and the goddess Diane represented with his favorite animal. The scene takes place in a sanctuary where three faithful offer gifts to the venerated divinity.
