Portrait of Ignace Thaon de Revel, Viceroy of Sardinia (1760-1835)

Ignace Thaon de Revel, born in Nice in 1760, belongs to a family of the nobility of Nice County. An officer of the Sardinian army, he was appointed Marshal of the Pedmontese army in 1829. In this painting carried out that year, he was represented on foot in an interior with in the background two paintings, on the left the portrait of his father Charles-François, governor of Turin, and on the right, that of his eldest brother, Joseph Alexandre.
The model painted by Chiarla covers its uniform, the great necklace of the Order of the Annonciade and the collar, the cross of the military order of Savoy and that of the Commander of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. On a table covered with a fabric of golden fringed velvet embroidered with weapons from the Thaon de Revel, are placed a bicorn, a plan of military fortification, a marechal stick with weapons from the Maison de Savoie and an encrier.
Federico Chiarla trained at the Turin Academy, was responsible for performing replicas of the paintings of the Pedmontese neoclassical art.
