Door locks

The paintings on the top of the doors come, like those of the dining room, from the castle of Govone near Turin. Royal residence of Charles-Félix and Marie-Christine in the aftermath of the Napoleonic era, it benefited from developments in the 1820s.

The paintings are also due to Carlo Pagani, painter of Genoa, author of all the door trumets of the castle of Govone. Represented in an oval frame, they illustrate scenes of mythology. On the right, a celebration of Venus and Cupidon Love associated with a dove and a torch lit. On the left, in a rural setting, there is a couple of Venus and Adonis lovers accompanied by his bow.

These painted panels were acquired by Victor Masséna during the sale of the castle decorations in 1898. There are three of them in the sales catalogue, while two of the paintings exist only in the villa Masséna. All wooden doors, carved and golden, with double beatings, are sculptor Francesco Novaro, who worked at the Savoy Court during the Restoration.
