The Sleeping Beauty

Driven by the sumptuous partition of Tchaikovsky, La Belle au bois dormant is a magnificent family show where the magic of the tale and the timeless beauty of the dance meet. If the great fairy tales cross the centuries, it is that they are much more than simple stories: they offer ways to think the world. Here, the destiny of the princess evokes a cycle of nature: the light energy of the summer, the uncertain autumn announced by the curse of Carabosse, then the winter of a long sleep. As in the spring return, the arrival of the prince, splitting the ronces, will return life to the kingdom. This allegory also tells the passage to adulthood, this moment suspended between childhood and maturity. With this production, Pontus Lidberg wants to reconnect with this reading present in the oldest versions of the story, while embracing what the ballet offers more rich: danced theatre and classical entertainment, magnified by one of the most emblematic scores of choreographic art.
