Jean-Christophe Maillot & Ioannis Mandafounis

Two choreographers, two generations, two scriptures – both on point. An evening designed for ballet enthusiasts as well as for those who wish to discover all the riches.Director of the Ballets of Monte-Carlo since 1993, Jean-Christophe Maillot made his entry to the repertoire of the Ballet of the Nice Côte d’Azur Opera with Opus 40. Created in 2000, this piece is an ode to youth; the work follows “the driving thread of pleasure”, from childhood sensations to the first emotions, then to the fullness of love. Meredith Monk's music accompanies this intimate journey. For this new interpretation, the choreographer came to convey his work to the dancers of the company, letting them resonate their personality and energy in the room. In echo, Ioannis Mandafounis, internationally renowned dancer and choreographer, artistic director of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company and heir to William Forsythe’s tradition, is invited to create a world premiere for the Nice Opera Ballet. With Funkier than a Mosquito, the choreographer meets classical technique, contemporary writing and improvisation, on the songs of Nina Simone.
