Istorietas marítimi – Little maritime stories

The Palais Lascaris offers, in collaboration with Maurice Maubert, an immersive artistic workshop inviting participants to explore the boundaries between real and imaginary across the port figure.

Starting point of this experience: the port of Nice, considered as a space of passage and transformation. Because the ports are doors. The docks, dikes and lighthouses draw the thresholds. Beyond this limit, the imagination joins the real, and the sea opens an infinite space of possible stories.

From the plastic and poetic world of Maurice Maubert, participants will be invited to take part in two creative workshops to design a maritime storyboard: a visual and sound story mixing ink portraits, texts, paintings and sensitive evocations.

At the heart of this proposal takes place an emblematic figure: the origin of an imaginary cargo ship, Santa Manza. A rusty sail of all travellers who are not tourists, it becomes the support of a collective imaginary fed by travels, fragments of lives and distant horizons. Around him, inks and plastic compositions question our relationship to the sea, which connects "every South".

Built in the Decorative Arts of Nice and then enriched by numerous trips to Asia and Europe, Maurice Maubert develops a proteiform work, mixing figuration and abstraction, where matter — pigments, lands, collages — dialogue with free and spontaneous forms. His passage through the Hangar Saint Roch in the 1990s marks a turning point towards an experimental and immersive practice, where painting, sculpture and installation create symbolic spaces open to the imagination.

This workshop offers a sensitive dive in this artistic universe, where everyone is invited to become, in turn, traveler and creator of stories.
