Cardinal, was it not the ideal destiny for an authoritarian and solitary arabilaire? For this is Alceste in the very comfortable situation of a man cut from the world, but holding this world in his iron hand: in the eighteenth century, the power of a prelate is considerable. Twenty years later, he then invited himself to his former lover to find a pretty quadragenary that, far from the court that she “ betrayed” by marrying a bourgeois, seems perfectly happy with her four children.
