Waiting area

Seven characters are held in a strange waiting room. Fragiles, terrible, funny and deeply attached, they sing and dance with frenzy, despite their many misadventures.

Macha Makeïeff knows the delicate art of getting to hear what is not saying. It reveals in silence the secret thoughts of the beings she invites on stage. It opens the doors of their loneliness and trains us in the disturbing territories of their imagination. At home, theatre becomes a place of internal listening.

After presenting to the TNN several large pieces of the repertoire, Macha Makeïeff returns with a creation of a different genre: Waiting area. It features a minimalist and rhythmic tragi-comic fresco, faithful to its taste for the burlesque and the music-hall. Here, few words: everything passes through the bodies, the gesture, the pantomime and the game. Between silent cinema and Commedia dell'arte, the stage designer composes a burlesque comedy where we laugh at the evil addresses and chaos that take place under our eyes.

Intention

I return to the theatre with Zone d’attend, reconnect with the slapstick, this form of poetic comedy and invention that is dear to me. I gathered a troupe of seven amazing and virtuoso artists in an unlikely place, like a dance track in the middle of the desert. I want to be close to a collective, to a tribe, to its violence, to its uncertainties and to its maladdresses, at the very close of a vast misunderstanding, to the brutality of absurd injunctions, to the confinement of what happens in the imagination of a human micro-society.
