The Resistants
After the success of "Léon Blum", "a heroic life", Charles Berling, Philippe Collin and Violaine Ballet continue their collaboration with "Les Résistantes", a new participative theatrical event dedicated to three major female figures of the Resistance: Geneviève de Gaulle, Mila Racine and Lucie Aubrac.
Often reduced to a handful of romantic clichés, that of a young bicycle messenger or a fighter who poses with his shoulder strap machine, women have long remained invisible in the history of the French Resistance. The struggle against the Vichy regime and Nazism seemed a priori a “human affair”.
Through the cross-destined destiny of these three figures, The Resistants highlights the essential role of women between 1940 and 1944: those who, in the shadow or in the light, struggled tirelessly for freedom.
Radio and theatre, spaces of circulation and construction of thought, mix here to imagine a third space with the audience that will take part in this passage of History during discussions, debates and songs. Designed as an agora, this space will allow you to live collectively an immersive experience on a whole evening, in the presence of a cartoonist, historian, choir...
Genesis
In September 2022, Charles Berling participated in the recording of an original podcast of France Inter, written and told by producer Philippe Collin, dedicated to the exciting life of Léon Blum. The encounter between Charles Berling and Philippe Collin around this illustrious political figure has created the desire to adapt his story to the theatre around a participative theatrical event: "Léon Blum, a heroic life. "
After the success of these performances, Charles Berling, Philippe Collin and Violaine Ballet were keen to continue their collaboration, this time around three female figures, according to Philippe Collin's original podcast by Violaine Ballet and Juliette Médevielle, broadcast on France Inter.
Intention
Historian Michèle Perrot once told us: “Take any subject of history, treat it from the angle of the feminine and you will see, unmistakably, new things emerge.” It was the first impulse of the project. The podcasts "Face à l'Histoire", broadcast on France Inter, are a great fresco, especially the Second World War. And the look at the action of women in the Resistance made us discover exciting facts. These unrecognized stories inspired this new participatory theatrical event. Geneviève de Gaulle, Lucie Aubrac and Mila Racine are the women we chose. Through their courage and commitment, they have defended values that are still ours today and that can inspire all generations: freedom, human dignity, justice, brotherhood. In a word: the Republic.
