High Perched
Four women speak: a housewife, a hospitality manager, a sentencing judge and a university. They speak to us of intimacy: annoyed love, annoyed existences, emptiness that substances sometimes come to fill. Their stories intersect, respond, drawing little by little the same institutional landscape through their different points of view. By questioning the inefficiency of the only repression, "Hautes perchées" sketches the possibility of a more attentive, humane look. The piece offers to these voices, too often marginalized, a space to fully say, in the writing of a true fiction.
Maurin Ollès offers a choral fiction where theatre and live music mix to explore a burning question: what does our society look at those who use drugs? Based on women’s trajectories, “Hautes perchées” questions how our health, justice and research institutions supervise, control or assist users and users. Far from being a moralizer, this exciting, rhythmic and joyful show suggests the complexity of a subject often reduced to silence or stigmatization.
IntentionAfter working on young offenders in France and on how public policies are becoming increasingly repressive and non-educational, I looked at the care of autistic people and their marginalization. Today I come to drug policies.The image of the drug addict remains figurative in the common imagination: a man, dangerous, dirty, criminal. Even when you think about alcoholics or the cannabis consumer, you can imagine mostly men. So, where are the usual women of drugs? They are very minority in places of care. Are they actually getting less sleep? What obstacles do they encounter? What specific stigmas weigh on them? The angle of attack on this subject will therefore be that of women, invisibilized and nevertheless revealing. With "Perched Highs", we are abducted from the moralizing, anxiogenic, sensationalist discourses that we find when talking about drugs. So I try to offer other perspectives, new stories, new ways to act. In this show we tell intimate stories: love stories, stories prevented by society, by institutions, by life.Maurin Ollès
