Saigon

In the hyperrealistic setting of a Vietnamese restaurant, stuck in a space-time between Vietnam of the 1950s and France of the 1990s, Caroline Guiela Nguyen unfolds an intimate and poignant fresco.

It is about life and its memories. The paths intertwine: stories of love, exile, family and friendship, all crossed by the great History. This “sacle saga” now cult entrenches the stage designer in the living territory of the great contemporary scriptures where the scene becomes the place of a profound dialogue with our time.

Through tears and smiles, Saigon explores what remains when we have left our country: the bonds, memories and desire to continue celebrating life. The result of a long work of immersion and carried by a plural distribution of French and Vietnamese actors, the show weaves a story loaded with a humanity that touches the heart.

Intention "Saigon" consists of testimonies, things that I was told, and others that I imagined. France conted to the Vietnamese was supposed to be the country of milk and honey. But when they arrived, the French had never seen Vietnamese faces, there was a lot of racism, we threw them in camps... It was disillusionment. It was necessary to learn to live together in France. In this show, I chose to have different people and languages on a plateau. All the work was, through their languages, to highlight their differences, and to be powerful. With Saigon, I wanted to go to the end of what I call a “drop of tears”, that is, not to be afraid of being in emotion. Caroline Guiela Nguyen
